Our business started back in 1978, Larry and I started with an insurance agency on First Street in Sanford, FL. People kept coming into the office and asking for tax preparation. After investigating Larry found out that office had previously been used by H & R Block for eleven years. One day, he came home from work and asked me if I would like to start a new business doing taxes. I had been preparing our taxes for 4 different businesses, for some 16 years by then. And so, Larry L. Grimm & Associates became an Insurance AND Tax office.
He took his tax course with H & R Block and we were off and running. We became a Notary, to help clients with that need also. At the time, I was working for Winn Dixie as a Deli Manager during the day, and nights at the Tax office. Larry hired other preparers to take over the heavier load. I took computer and tax courses at Seminole Community College and H & R Block.
We opened a second tax office in Deland on Hwy 17-92, at the old White Elephant Bldg. We only kept it open for two years since the expense of other preparers and two offices was more than we could bear at the time. We set up a home office in Deltona and I took over ownership in 1982, when Larry had been disabled by an auto accident. I took accounting courses at Daytona Beach Community College. For 24 years, the business grew, and I worked with many clients preparing taxes and bookkeeping, until I sold the business in 2006.
A new chapter had opened in our life and so I decided to sell the business. I started working as a sub-contractor for another accounting firm, taking care of “my” clients that they had taken over. I still felt a sense of loyalty and affection for all those who had shown confidence in us over the many years.
Phase two of our Tax Prep business would now include not just myself but also Kristin, our new daughter-in-law. She had worked as a bookkeeper for 10 years when our youngest son, Benjamin, had met her in 2007. After and during their courtship she went to tax school and ended up working at the same accounting firm as me. Then in 2008, Kristin & I formed our new corporation called Grimm & Associates, Inc. Since then we not only have our main Deltona office, but Kristin established the New Smyrna Beach office.
Through the years we have taken extensive continuing education courses to keep up with the numerous tax law changes and to provide the best service possible to our valued clients. In addition to Individual tax returns, Kristin has taken over the Bookkeeping department and the bulk of Corporation work. I consider her our expert in that area. I continue to specialize in tax preparation, tax consulting, and Estate/Trust tax work.
Rose is from Michigan, moved to Florida in 1964. Married to Larry for 60 years. She has 5 children, 6 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. She enjoyed doing volunteer work in Bahamas from 1999-2011, the first half of their voyages were in their sailboat. She enjoys reading and painting.
Kristin is from Michigan. She moved to Florida in 2008 when she married Ben, Rose’s youngest son. She has one daughter, Kali, who you probably have met in the office. She’s been coming since she was 2 weeks old. Kristin loves reading and relaxing on the beach.
